As it is the last day of 2016, I am writing an overview of my year 2016. (This is a looooooong post, so please just stick with me 😄). It’s a collab with the lovely Rosamae❤️! You should definitely check her blog out! She is so kind and her blog is amazing!
My year started good (I think… I can’t really remember). I spent New Year with my family and good friends of ours. They didn’t stay up until midnight because their children are younger than us (meaning my brother and I) and they left at about 10:00 pm. My parents were so tired they also wanted to go to bed but I insisted on staying up at least to midnight (I mean how couldn’t I!).
The last weekend before school restarted I reconciled with my (ex)boy best friend. We were really close all of 2015 until October 2015 when we had a massive misunderstanding (I’ll not go into detail). He didn’t speak to me for months until January of this year. We kind of got along after that but it has been an on-off friendship. I gave up on trying to gain his friendship back this summer because he didn’t deserve me running after him when he just didn’t care. I’ve also learnt a lot by this, though, and am definitely not making this mistake again.
This was a bit of a hard month for me because I lost my pets. Some of you may call them disgusting because in the wild (well, city), they are dirty. And yes, it is true, in the urban environment they are dirty, but I think any wild animal in the city isn’t very clean. So the animals I am referring to are rats. Yes, I had rats. But they aren’t dirty as most people say. It’s like snakes, everyone thinks they are terrible and dangerous which is true, in the wild, but which animal in the wild isn’t dangerous? Cats, in the wild, are also dangerous but lots of people keep them as pets. The same goes for rats. In nature, they are dirty and have viruses, but the ones you keep as pets haven’t got all that. They are actually cleaner than cats and dogs. It’s not like we go to a city and just pick a rat from the sewers and call it a “pet”. I find that pet rats are misunderstood, they don’t bite (if they do, it’s when they are young and curious, to see if you are food. It doesn’t hurt), they don’t have viruses or bacteria in their fur and can be trained to do their business in a corner (although that one didn’t quite work for me 😆). They can also learn tricks. When I called them by their name they would come. Unfortunately they all passed away in February for different reasons. But they lived a happy life (I hope *nervous laugh*). Pet rats aren’t disgusting, people just have the image of a sewer rat in their head when you tell them you have a pet rat. For hundreds of years, rats have been bred by humans. The rats you buy in stores have been raised to keep as pets (although I got them from a breeder which is even better). They are like hamsters except that they are terribly misunderstood. (I’m not talking about physical similarities just the concept.) (Also excuse my animal ranting, it just kind of gets to me when people say “oooohh you had rats, they are so gross!” so I just wanted to explain.)
I don’t think much happened in March except for my birthday! Well, it was on the 31st, but it’s still March! (I was supposed to be born on the first of April….That would have been a great ice breaker in an awkward conversation!)
I also had my annual flute concert. Which I love because I always feel like a VIP because there is a long queue and I just walk past and go in (best. feeling. ever!!!!!!!)
Again, nothing special happened in April. It was Sara’s birthday though. (Quick update on our friendship; we have unfortunately kind of drifted apart. We are still friends but not close anymore. Even though we knew each other for 6 years and have been really close for 5 years, we don’t understand each other as well anymore. At least we don’t hate each other, and I’m grateful for that.)
Did anything happen in May? Well, no, nothing happened I think…..(look, my memory isn’t the best…)
This was a really great month for me because a) it was the last month before Summer Holidays and b) my class (and the next-door class) had a school camp! (You don’t know how much I love school camps!) Especially this camp because it was a sport camp (well, circus camp). It was a bit weird timing because we left on a Sunday and came back on a Thursday. A few weeks beforehand we had to choose a subject to learn in that week. I chose air acrobatics and tumbling. On the Thursday evening all the parents came and we did a performance. It was a really cool experience and I absolutely love gymnastics now (I teach myself though because there are no gymnastics clubs near where I live.)
Not much happened in July. Well, I was living at the local pool. I went there almost every day with my friends. It was also my Mum’s birthday.
My family and I spent a week on my Uncle’s boat. Which was really REALLY cool! They have a cocker spaniel named Alex (first name that isn’t anonymous!). He is by far my favourite dog on this planet! He is absolutely adorable!!
In the third week of August I started school again (yay…)
Also *drumroll please* I started my blog!!!! I had wanted to do this for months after I read Girl Online. I asked my parents and after a few months my Dad told me I could do it! He has experience in computers and WordPress so he helped me to set it up. It has been a great experience, and I love writing now (I used to hate it).
I don’t think much happened in September…? Nothing special at least.
I started getting really close to one of my friends. We have known each other for years but never got close. This year we had the same classes and we didn’t know many people in our new classes. So we started hanging out together and became great friends. She is one of my best friends and helped me a lot after what happened with Sara. As she is is part of my life I think it’s only right to give her a name. I’ll call her… Autumn, because her hair reminds me of autumn and I have great memories with her from autumn. She is also one of my only friends that knows of my blog.
This was the month I really started blogging and writing. I was still really hurt by Sara (as I already said, when you are friends with someone for so long it’s really hard to let them go). But I wouldn’t go back. Yes, it was hard but it has taught me so much. I have gained so much confidence by this experience and I wouldn’t be the person I am now without it (I’m sounding like an old lady looking back at her life… *Dramatic sigh* )
And here we are! December! I don’t think I have to say anything because I said everything in my blog! (and because this post is getting waaaaaay too long.)
So that was it! A quick look on my year 2016! I hope you have a great New Year and a good start to 2017! (Can someone tell me where time went? This year happened so fast! But it has taught me so much!)
Also a huge thank you to all of you! I have had an amazing year and this blog has definitely been part of it! I still sometimes wake up thinking “I can’t believe I have a blog!”. It may be something small for some people, but this blog means so much to me! I absolutely love writing now and I don’t know what I would do if lost this blog!
Happy New Year !
