So yesterday, after months of asking my parents finally got Netflix and, I know, everyone and their dog have it but ya!
So I had heard good reviews on the series Riverdale so I thought I would start watching it. And given the fact that I finished in two days I can pretty much say that I LOVE it! Oh yeah, and my mum binge watched it with me. Proof that it was a good show, we went to bed at half past midnight yesterday…
And…well…you guessed it I’m doing a review!
So…what is it?
Riverdale is a television series for The CW based on characters from the Archie Comics.
Well, and as you may know, I suck at explaining things so here’s what Wikipedia says about the story XD.
“During an eventful summer, including the tragic death of quarterback Jason Blossom on the Fourth of July, Archie Andrews discovers his passion for music. He soon begins his sophomore year and expresses his love for music to Betty Cooper, the sweet girl-next-door who harbours her own secret—her feelings for Archie. Meanwhile, Veronica Lodge, the beautiful daughter of a millionaire facing embezzlement charges, arrives in town, instantly capturing Archie’s attention. Despite the fact that a love triangle is developing, Betty and Veronica become fast friends, united when Veronica stands up against the condescending captain of the cheerleading squad, Cheryl Blossom, who may be hiding a secret concerning her brother’s death. Archie’s former best friend, Jughead Jones, begins to write a novel retelling the events of the summer, including what happened between him and Archie.”
The characters and actors:
Archie Andrews: Archie is played by KJ Apa. He’s quite good looking in my opinion and got stronger over the summer because he was working for his dad. At the start of the series, you can see him developing a taste for music. His dad isn’t too fond of the idea as he thinks it won’t bring him far. Later in the series, he starts to accept it and is a huge supporter.
Betty Cooper: Betty is portrayed by Lili Reinhart. She is described as sweet, studious, eager-to-please and wholesome as apple pie with a huge crush on her longtime best friend, Archie.
Jughead Jones: Jughead (his real name is Forsythe Pendleton which I didn’t know till I googled it so yeah) is played by Cole Sprouse (if you don’t know him then I think you’ve been living under a rock). And before I get into his character can I just say that Cole Sprouse is ughhhh…look for yourself!
Anyway….Enough fangirling….*cough*. Jug is a very introverted teen that feels like the weirdo. He is the narrator of the series and is writing a novel about Jason Blossom’s mysterious death.
Veronica Lodge: Played by Camila Mendes, Veronica also known as Ronnie is a new student at Riverdale High School. She moved from New York to her mother’s hometown of Riverdale due to her father’s arrest. She struggles to find the truth behind her father’s loyalties and intentions, as well as reform herself into a better person.
Cheryl Blossom: Cheryl is portrayed by Madelaine Petsch. She was born and raised in Riverdale alongside her twin brother Jason to Cliff and Penelope Blossom. The Blossom family have an ongoing feud with the Cooper family, and Jason’s involvement with the Cooper’s oldest daughter Polly didn’t help.
Okay, obviously I won’t do all the characters as this would take days so if you want to know about everyone I would read about them on the wiki.
I liked the fact that they talked about so many important topics like racism, sexism, drugs, money problems, trust, friendship, love, etc…but although they do talk about these problems they don’t show many graphic scenes (which I find to be the worst). But I am telling you there are a LOT of intimate scenes! (nothing too graphic but just saying!)
I would say it’s a great series for teens and adults. If you don’t like films discussing these topics then it’s probably nothing for you but otherwise yassss!
After having watched the first episode yesterday I told my parents about it and I was explaining the story. They thought it wasn’t a very creative (at least that’s how I got it) but later my mum joined me and well she was hooked XD. So moral of the story, it may sound lame but it’s really good!
Overall as I already said I loved it and would definitely recommend it! (And I can’t wait for season 2!!!)
I hope you enjoyed and tell me if you’ve watched it or you want! I would love to know!
XOXO, Rosie <3
P.S-just a cheeky photo of Cole Sprouse again XD
