Hellew elves of mine, *warning I’m in a good mood which may be confused with a serial killer, I’m not crazy, I promise*.
So day two of Blogmas it is. This is a collab MyGirlBlogger (she is amazing and if you haven’t already, go check her out, seriously what have you been doing with your life?)! And we decided to talk about ‘why Christmas isn’t only about presents’.
Now, yeah, I get it. Christmas is the time of the year where we all give and get presents, decorate our houses and eat a lot of chocolate. But in my opinion, it’s also SO much more!! I live in Switzerland (if you didn’t know that, I repeat, what are you doing with your life?) and I’ve literally got family all over the world (hello grandparents of mine who live on the other side of the world!). And we don’t see each other often, about twice a year to be precise. Christmas is one of them. It’s the time of year where we all get together and have an amazing time.
Everyone’s happy! We smile stupidly at the smell of fresh baked cookies, charities give away presents to the poor, money is raised for good causes and people who live far away get to see their family (well not all of them but a few).
But I feel that today, Christmas has become a HUGE marketing excuse (or whatever you call it, I’m sure you know what I mean). All the decoration, all the presents, all the plastic trees, all the lights, everything! I get it, plastic Christmas trees last longer but just DON’T buy a tree in November!!!! We tend to forget that we’re celebrating the birth of Jesus. Wherever I go, I see a bunch of useless stuff being sold for the ‘Christmas season’. Sure it’s nice to decorate but in the last years, I think it’s becoming more and more ridiculous.
I think Christmas should be more about family and laughter than things, presents, plastic trees.
All of this is my opinion, I won’t hate you if you disagree😂.
So what do you think? What’s Christmas to you?
